Meeras is a free, open poetry archive. We collect the minimum needed to run accounts, moderate contributions and keep the service safe — and nothing for advertising.

Account information: your email address, display name and password. Passwords are stored only as an argon2id hash — we never keep or see them in plain text.
Preferences: your preferred script and interface language.
Content you write: comments and work submissions, together with their moderation history.
Technical records: server logs (including IP addresses) used for security and rate-limiting, and an append-only audit trail of administrative actions on the archive.
Usage analytics (on by default; you can opt out): the pages you view and searches you run and whether they returned results, which works you engage with (like, bookmark, share) and how far you read them, plus details derived from your request — your IP address, approximate location (country, region, city), device type, operating system and browser. We store both a salted hash of your IP address and the IP address itself, which is visible to our administrators in an internal visitor log. If you are signed in, an event may be linked to your account.
Meeras sets httpOnly authentication cookies that keep you signed in. We also set one first-party analytics cookie (meeras_vid) — a random identifier holding no personal data — so we can count unique visitors and understand how the archive is used.
Analytics run by default. You can opt out at any time using the control below, and we honour your browser's Do-Not-Track setting; in either case no further usage data is collected. There are no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Signing out invalidates your session tokens.
To operate your account, to send the email that accounts need (verification and password reset — nothing promotional), to moderate comments and submissions before they are published, and to keep the service secure.
Where you have consented, to understand which poetry people look for — including searches that return nothing, so we can fill the gaps — and to improve the archive. This analysis uses only the anonymous, aggregated data above.
We do not sell or rent personal data. Information is shared only with the infrastructure providers that run the service (hosting, database, email delivery, error monitoring), bound by their own data-processing agreements.
Account data is kept while your account is active. You can request deletion at any time by writing to us from your registered email address: the account is removed and your public contributions are detached to a neutral “deleted user” marker. Minimal moderation and audit records are retained where the law requires.
Analytics events (including the stored IP address) are retained indefinitely to study usage trends over time. They are not linked to your account unless you were signed in when they were recorded.
In accordance with the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, grievances may be addressed to the Grievance Officer (to be appointed) at the contact email above. Complaints are acknowledged within 24 hours and resolved within 15 days.
