Progressive · 1921–1980 · Ludhiana – Bombay
Abdul Hayee, who wrote as Sahir Ludhianvi, announced himself with "Talkhiyaan" (Bitternesses) while still in his twenties. Moving to Bombay, he insisted film lyrics could carry real poetry — and proved it in songs that questioned war, poverty and the price of love. He never married; the ache of his verse became part of his legend.
