Syed Ali Haidar, with the pen name Nazm, carried Lucknow's literary finish to the Nizam's Hyderabad, where he taught, translated and wrote. His "Sharh-e-Deewan-e-Urdu-e-Ghalib" remains one of the most consulted commentaries on Ghalib; his own ghazals show the same exacting ear. He also produced a celebrated Urdu rendering of Gray's "Elegy".
