Progressive · 1928–1993 · Hoshiarpur – Lahore
Habib Jalib wrote for the street and read on it, jailed again and again for poems like "Dastoor" — "main nahin manta" — that refused every dictatorship Pakistan produced. His plain diction was a deliberate politics: poetry the unlettered could seize instantly. He died poor in Lahore in 1993, his verses still the soundtrack of protest.
